Keely Hodgkinson does not exclude making a new British record attempt in Lausanne

Keely Hodgkinson left the opportunity to beat her own 800 -meter British record during the Diamond League competition on Saturday in Lausanne.

The Olympic champion marked her return of an absence of 376 days on Saturday in Silesia in a magnificent style, blocking a minute and 54.74 seconds, the ninth the fastest 800 -meter female performance in history.

It was also the second fastest that Hodgkinson ever organized his signature event, behind his own national record of 1: 54.61 set in London Diamond League last year.

“I guess I was quite close to the other day, so I don’t exclude it, no,” said the 23 -year -old player.

“I think it depends, as, when you perform this kind of time, you really have to be on the pace. Point four can cost you point four later. So getting the first round is really important and entering this second round is really important.

“I wouldn’t say they are out of the cards, but we’ll just have to see what the body feels.”

Only two women – Jarmila Kratochvilova and Nadezhda Olizarenko – have already recorded times in less than a minute and 54 seconds. The first set the current world record for one minute and 53.28 seconds in 1983.

I have already said that I think 1:53 is possible (but) you have to do things really well, ”said Hodgkinson.

“It must be a very good day. It is probably one of these unique peak days when everything went well. It would definitely be a goal.

Hodgkinson has even less than a month until the 800 meters start at the Tokyo World Championships, where she hopes to win her Olympic victory with her first world title.

She even has the name of the Japanese capital tattooed on her arm, commemorating the place where she made her Olympic debut – and collected a silver medal – in 2021.

The post-Olympic year of Hodgkinson began with the injury of a knee problem before undergoing a tendon injury from the left ischo-Jewish in February, then injured straight hamstrings in May, although it was “supposed not as bad as the other”.

Atherton’s athlete and his team now speed up his training – the injury, she revealed, is known as a “sprinter injury” – before the world’s force.

She added: “Things went very well. The body is much stronger, all I did is to train all year round, so I’m definitely in a very good place physically. It is a question of meeting now and, hopefully, to put these mental blocks and these barriers behind me.”
