The 2025 women’s rugby world cup promises to be the biggest competition with record sales of tickets and more professional players involved than ever.
New Zealand’s black ferns are part of two reigning champions and the most likely rivals for the favorites of the house in England, France and Canada also hosting realistic hopes to win the tournament.

An expansion to 16 teams will offer vital opportunities for a wider range of nations through the female game, and many players should play while the game continues to grow.
While a certain number of red roses and other stars of the six nations are now well established, a major tournament offers a chance for players elsewhere to present their talent on the largest scene in sport and to display the quality of sport.
Here are five people who could stand out from the tournament:

New Zealand tends to raise its level considerably during a year of the World Cup, coming from nowhere, three years ago to break the dreams and the triumph of England in an exciting final in Auckland. They looked a little behind the red roses during their last meeting with the team of John Mitchell, but the black fernes were back closer to their best in the Pacific Four series earlier this year, with the return of Portia Woodman -Wickliffe – which has up to 20 trials of its two World Cups so far – adding a wide threat. Ruby Tui, a star in 2022, did not even do their team.

There are a lot of faces established in the Allan Bunting team, but a more recent name to watch is Jorja Miller, who is part of the Kiwi Sevens winning team in Paris 2024. An Uber athlete and an intelligent individual, The Flanker sometimes held the co-captain Kennedy Tukuafufu.
Claudia Pena, Spain
Formerly a strength in European game, Spain has stagnated a little since their ejection of the tournament which is now the six nations, with Las Leonas unless regular chances are to test against the appropriate competition until the launch of WXV two years ago. Their return to the World Cup is welcome after missing the last tournament – although New Zealand, an improvement in Ireland and a well -organized Japan are a delicate C.

The back of the back Patricia Garcia is now taking advantage of a very deserved retirement, but at Claudia Pena, 20, they found a new star. The young person took the female rugby of Premières (PWR) last season in Harlequins, combining wonderfully with Ellie Kildune in the background of Ross Chisholm and obtaining a prolonged agreement with the London Club. Its use will be interesting – Pena has prospered in the outdoor center of Quins but was deployed regularly at the back by her country. Maximizing its keys will be the key, you would think, if Spain must succeed.
Caitlyn Halse, Australia

There is a lot in female rugby that predicts great things for Australia in the coming years, the athletic talent of the undeniable country and their increase likely to be accelerated by a home tournament in four years. The former captain of England Jo Yapp began to put the foundations in place on which to build, although the coach of Wallaroos left after this World Cup to return home. The news of the ankle surgery of the star of Sevens Charlotte Caslick are a bitter disappointment, while the circumstances surrounding the non -deputy of Maddison Levi for the tournament remain a little vague – it is also shameful not to see an individual as good in play 15.

Winning the confrontation with the United States will be vital if Australia must escape pool A and adolescent Caitlyn Halse will be a key figure. Not yet 19, Halse looks insured in his young test career so far and has both a large boot and a threat of natural counterattack.
Sinead Ryder, Samoa

The Samoa will be another welcome return of the World Cup, the side of the Pacific island hoping to give England, the United States and Australia a strong challenge in their three swimming pool games that impressed WXV in Dubai last year. The absence of Cassie Siataga, who withdrew for personal reasons, is a blow, but there are still many experienced characters from the domestic scene in New Zealand.

Among them, Sinead Ryder, who is used to keeping the star of Rising Red Roses Maddie Feaunati outside Wellington. At 33, the rear row will be a coach of the Manusina Mataafa Ramsey Tomokino could hope for. The fact that Ryder had to melt on Crowd to allow him to go to the tournament, meanwhile, shows that if the best players in certain countries are now entirely professional, it is always a difficult landscape for most of the tournament.
Sophie de Goede, Canada

Canada also had to obtain financial support from their fans before the World Cup. Coherent over-informatics despite the lack of resources behind them, the front depth is a particular force for Kevin Rouet-it is Canada, of course, which launched a division of seven attackers at a back bench in the semi-finals near Miss against England in 2022.

Back to strengthen the ranks after recovering from an LCA tear is the supreme Sophie de Goede, also completes a player like that he currently exists in the women’s game. Leader, the appellant Lineout, the goal – there are not many things that the daughter of two former captains of Canada cannot do on a rugby field. De Goede looked at full speed after a prolonged lengthening with an excellent Lock performance against Ireland in the last warm -up match of Canada.
