England has appointed former Captain Heather Knight in their women’s cup team while continued her return from the injury, but the experienced seamstress Kate Cross is among those to be missed.

Knight has not played since he damaged his hamstrings in May, but takes his place in a team of 15 people for the Tournament in India and Sri Lanka, which takes place from September 30 to November 2.

With conditions on the subcontinent to offer a lap, head coach Charlotte Edwards included four specialized spinners.

Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith and Charlie Dean are joined by the Sarah Glenn leg spinner, who had been neglected for the recent series against India, but is now ready for her first world cup of first 50. It actually takes the place of Cross, which has emerged from a reduced program.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge is also back after losing his place in the configuration of the ODI after the defeat of Ashes last winter, while Maia Bouchier and Alice Davidson-Richards missed the cup.

“The conditions mean that we have opted for the additional spinner and we are lucky to have such depth in this department, it is fantastic to welcome Sarah Glenn,” said Edwards, who succeeded Jon Lewis earlier this year.

“This means that there is no place for Kate Cross, Maia Bouchier or Alice Davidson-Richards, which will be disappointing.

“It is also great to have Danni in the team, it was in good shape in domestic cricket and it will bring dynamism and depth to our striker, alongside Heather, which we are absolutely delighted to be able to select. It will be a huge asset for us. ”

Edwards, who was appointed to raise a team that had flocked badly towards the end of Lewis’ mandate and failed during the T20 World Cup from last year to the United Arab Emirates, spoke optimistic about the upcoming challenge.

“Like all world tournaments, it will be a huge challenge, but we want to go as far as possible in India and Sri Lanka and I believe that if we play our best cricket, we can compete with anyone,” she said.

“As a group, we have a huge opportunity to go doing something special. ODI World Cups are the ultimate in our sport. They only come every four years and we are so excited to go there to start our preparation. ”

In all, there are nine survivors from the last World Cup campaign in 2022, when England was beaten in the final by Australia, and only four that raised the Trophy to Lord’s in 2017. They are Knight, Wyatt-Hodge, Tammy Beaumont and the current skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt.
